West End Apartment
In this prewar UWS apartment, we situated the living salon to take advantage of the natural light and open views afforded by a neighboring historical building. From this open corner, we created visual corridors and carved light channels that extend through the apartment, connecting the interior spaces to one another and the city. With the salon at the organizational center, the kitchen, library, and sleeping spaces pinwheel around the perimeter, joined together by large framed  openings. Throughout the apartment, the textures of raw oak, leathered marble, fumed wood, earthen plaster, and uncovered cast iron columns were inspired by the material palette of the original building.
