Roaring Fork Valley House

In the cradle of the Roaring Fork Valley, this mid-century house was poised to frame views of Mount Sopris— a backdrop that changes with the weather and time of day. The inverted butterfly roof with exposed timber rafters soars high above the living space giving way to the view. As part of the renovation, we designed incisions and insertions throughout the house to connect spaces of the interior with one another, and the house with its surroundings. The inlaid skylights between the rafters create pools of sunlight; a switchback bunk bed divides and connects the two boys’ rooms as a secret passage; a play loft is perched over the kitchen with views of the living room; and an open stair hangs down from the vestibule into the lower level where a playroom and guest suite unfold to the backyard.
